The artist Ieva Bertašiūtė Grosbaha is a Lithuanian-born professional ceramist whose preferred material is porcelain. She has been closely connected with the Latvian contemporary art scene and currently lives and works in Kaunas, Lithuania. The artist's solo exhibition shall include a selection of her latest works. She fashions functional and sculptural objects from porcelain, clay and other ceramic materials, and likewise creates conceptual installations.

"Although I work mainly with ceramics, my creations are interdisciplinary. I search for points of contact where different artistic and scientific disciplines meet. My work embraces two essential aspects: a joke and a serious message," says the artist.

In the framework of her doctoral research, the artist has focused on the significance of the tactile experience of ceramic materials in the creative process and has asked the question: what do the artist's hands know? Thus, it is precisely the handmade object, a larger or a smaller one, that is central to the artist's oeuvre. That is why the title of the exhibition references the importance of the touch of the hand. Every work is akin to a fingerprint; and fingerprinting means not only physical action, but also emotional involvement, a promotion of an idea and a mark of identity.

Ieva Bertašiūte Grosbaha (1983) graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Ceramics Department (Kaunas) and received her doctoral degree (Vilnius, 2021). The artist actively participates in international art residencies, symposia, conferences and festivals. She has organised several solo exhibitions and since 2008 has participated in group exhibitions in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Denmark, Switzerland, Portugal, Sweden, Korea, the Netherlands and the USA. This is her first solo exhibition at the Riga Porcelain Museum.
