The exhibition will be held in Riga Porcelain museum from 27 November 2020 to 17 January 2021 with 33 participants from 16 different countries.
As a geometric concept, asymmetry embodies the idea of oppositionality. Every second, there are divergent and counter-forcing processes in the world. The contrast between the symmetrical and the asymmetrical is often the difference between things made by humans and those which occur in nature. Objects, technologies and ideas created by humans are frequently based on repetition and have symmetrical or systemic structures. But there are no straight lines in nature. Every object is unique in form, and even the human body is asymmetric. As a concept, asymmetry is in a sense the foundation of beauty.
We invite artists to create works from porcelain based on the theme of “Asymmetric Movements” and received 75 applications from 16 different countries.
The works for the exhibition are selected by a jury: Riga Porcelain Museum Director Santa Dobele, Riga Porcelain Museum Chief Collection Manager Iliana Veinberga, Riga Porcelain Museum Expositons and Exhibitions Curator Ieva Nagliņa, Riga Porcelain Museum Artists Rasa Jansone and artist Elīna Titāne.
