The theme of the 2023 exhibition is “Pure color.”
Colour, no colour. Chromatic, achromatic. Primary colours, complementary colours, warm and cool tones and halftones. In visual arts, colour and colour blocking are fundamental means of expression. An illusion of tree-dimensionality and realistic impression is achieved by using a range of colour shades representing light and shadow. On the other hand, rhythmically arranged blocks of colour, either in symmetrical or asymmetrical composition, creates abstract expression. Colour impacts our senses.
With our chosen theme - "pure colour" - we would like to invite porcelain artists to think about colour as the medium of meaning. Form, structural construction and silhouette are normally considered to be the most important aspects of sculptural artworks, but how does the meaning and reception of the object change, if colour becomes the dominant means of expression? Pure colour?
The submitted work must have been created in the last two years. The material used in making the submitted work must be porcelain. Other materials may be used to assist in exhibiting the works or as supplements to the installation (for example as a base, platform or stand) if these do not exceed 30% of the overall volume of the work. The dimensions of the submitted work (or the total dimensions of a group of works) must not exceed 21 cm x 21 cm x 21 cm. The minimum size of the works must be not less than 13 cm in at least one dimension.
Artists shall declare they are participating by sending a completed application form and a photograph of their work to rpm@riga.lv.
