In Riga Porcelain museum from 4th December, 2015, till 31th Jaunuary, 2016.
Latvīte Medniece (1924) has marked a vivid and very Latvian trait in Latvian art. The artist works in clay, chamotte, and porcelain. She possesses an elaborated and skillful handwriting and mainly works with figural compositions, her pieces of art can be characterized by playfulness and friskiness. In her works the daily routine closely and naturally intertwines with sacral elements and folklore as naturally intertwines with christianity. Latvīte Medniece is not afraid of experimenting with her techniques and in many senses has been a pioneer in Latvian ceramics. She is almost the only artist who combines various ceramics materials in the same piece. The exhibition provides an insight into the artist’s creative work by featuring almost all techniques and materials used in her work, including the figures in clay and chamotte.
With this exhibition the Riga Porcelain Museum outlines the thematic series of year 2016 exhibitions intended to focus on the artists who have worked for the Riga Porcelain Factory.
The exhibition features the works from the artist’s family collection as well as from the collections of the Riga Porcelain Museum, Museum of Applied Art and Design and Latvian Artists’ Union.
