In Riga Porcelain Museum
April 7 – June 5, 2016.
“The cycling lady rides her bicycle when it’s sunny, when it’s windy and when it rains. Climbing a hill is difficult, however moving downward is so easy. At last the lady arrives in a garden. There are flowers, birds, bees and butterflies. Beauty and peace. Symbolically the garden as an oasis represents an escape from the world.”, this is the story told about the theme of the exhibition and plots of pieces by ceramist Inese Margēviča.The key words in the title of the exhibition reveal the codes for “reading” the artist’s works. The cycling lady is a dynamic character – it represents movement, tension, pursuing a goal, difficulties and challenges on the road – the changing rhythm. The garden is an escape and balance – regular alternation of seasons, day and night. Blossoming, a bird song and buzzing of a bee. Refreshment provided by smell, colours and forms. Imperceptibly Inese Margēviča conjures a unique world for us and lets us enjoy her rhythm. The exhibition features painted porcelain dishes, vases and figures.
The artist’s handwriting in the ceramics of Latvia is marked by individualized stylization of the figurative and nature motifs. The aesthetics of the pieces is created by arranging the mixtures of lines and colours in fine and rhythmical compositions dominated by a circular shape. In the porcelain pieces the range of the porcelain white up to various other colours and their hues are used. The overall colouring can be described as monochrome – the land colour range is supplemented with golden and platinum accents.
Inese Margēviča (1960) has obtained a Master’s Degree in Arts from the Art Academy of Latvia (2001), as well as a Master’s Degree in Art Education from the University of Latvia. (2004). She is a member of the Artists’ Union of Latvia and ceramics association “Logs”. The artist has participated in exhibitions since 1990 and has had 15 solo exhibitions.
