The best works of Latvian contemporary ceramics will be on display from October 29th to November 30th 2015 at the exhibition “Latvian Contemporary Ceramics” held the outdoor gallery “Gobis/Outdoor Expo” in Vilnius, organised by Riga Porcelain Museum.
The exhibition “Latvian Contemporary Ceramics” in Vilnius is a collaboration between Riga Porcelain Museum of the Assocation of Culture Institutions of Riga City Council, the Group of Cultural Initiatives “Kvadratas” and Vilnius Art Academy. It aims to bring the latest in Latvian ceramics and works by outstanding ceramic artists to residents and visitors to Lithuania.
The exhibition will be held in the original Vilnius open air gallery “Gobis/Outdoor Expo” in glass cubes in two locations in central Vilnius. Works by six Latvian ceramic artists – Dainis Lesins, Valda Podkalne, Dainis Pundurs, Liga Skarina, Elina Titane and the artists team Skuja Braden – will be displayed on the central street of Vilnius at Gedimino prospektas 13, while some examples of porcelain painting by Inese Brants will be on show at the gallery’s second location “VDA/Outdoor Expo” at Vilnius Art Academy, Maironio gatve 4.
All of the artists participating in the exhibition are important personalities in Latvian ceramic art who have gained recognition internationally. The exhibition will introduce patrons to the best of Latvian ceramics, through the works of seven unique but equally outstanding artists. Latvia’s contemporary ceramicists work with a variety of materials such as clay, stoneware and porcelain, they experiment with glazes, textures and porcelain overglaze decor, and they create works using mixed materials and techniques. The works on display reveal the rich diversity of Latvian ceramics, from monumental and conceptual works to decoratively refined objects.
The gallery “Gobis/Outdoor Expo” was specially created to display ceramics. It is lighted and open for viewing 24 hours a day, thus making it possible for a wide range of patrons to attend exhibitions. Collaboration between “Gobis/Outdoor Expo” and Riga Porcelain Museum began in 2009, with participation by ten Latvian porcelain artists in the exhibition “10 x Porcelain from Latvia / 10 x Latvių porcelianas”.
The exhibition “Latvian Contemporary Ceramics” is an initiative of the group “Kvadratas” as part of the international ceramics exhibition exchange program “In&Outdoors” under the auspice of the project “Benchmarks of Arts.”
