From 16 October till 30 November.
From 16 October till 30 November the 9th International Small Form Porcelain Exhibition is hosted by Riga Porcelain Museum. This year for the first time in the history of the exhibition it is taking place under one theme - PROVOCATION.
Since 2006 Riga Porcelain Museum of the Association of Culture Institutions of Riga City Council has been organizing a special annual exhibition assembling artists from all over the world. The aim of the exhibition is to show the newest art pieces by Latvian and foreign artists which have been made of porcelain and do not exceed 15x15x15 cm in their dimensions.
The theme of the current exhibition is PROVOCATION and it is revealed in several aspects. First of all the provocation is presented by the technical parameters of the art work – the limitations of the material and size that are already familiar to a part of the participating artists among which the annual exhibition has gained its popularity. The provocation is also targeted at the spectator – to see and find new ideas, forms and moods expressed in the art work. However, there are also the most different provocations presented by the artists – some of them play with witty ideas and challenge perception and associations, others surprise with aesthetic forms of expression – the colour, form and diverse technical approaches.
All together the 9th International Small Form Porcelain Exhibition was submitted 63 applications from which the jury chose 29 works by artists representing 11 countries, including Latvia, Turkey, England, Canada, USA, Russia, Mexico, Korea, Germany, Lithuania and Poland. This year the artists representing Latvia are – Ilze Emse-Grīnberga, Inese Līne, Alise Mediņa, Kristīne Niedrāja, Antoņina Paškēviča, Arnis Pelšs, Ainārs Rimicāns and Ilona Romule.
